Throughout the Portland Metro region in July, companies participate in the Carefree Commuter Challenge. Employees track their sustainable commute trips during the month of July to win prizes and pats on the back. Transit, walking, bicycling, carpooling and vanpooling all count, so does telecommuting. The CCC also creates a friendly competition among businesses of like size for awards and high praise. This annual event creates support at the workplace and a change that lasts.
A month-long event will encourage non-drive alone commute trips during the month of July 2009
In 2008, the CCC broke its prior records and saved 1,264,985 driving miles.
That means saving more than 200,000 fuel dollars and more than 1 million pounds of carbon emissions. The 2008 CCC was a success thanks to more than 4,500 registered, participating commuters and more than 200 participating companies.
At the end of July, registered commuters are eligible for prizes like bicycles, weekend getaways, restaurant gift cards, Zipcar memberships, a TriMet annual pass and more.
