MOLALLA — The third-rank La Salle Falcons took care of business in their Capital Conference football opener Friday, dispatching with defending conference champion Molalla 34-6.
The Falcons amassed 456 yards in offense and they used hard-nosed defensive play to force the Indians to abandon their rushing game and take to the air.
“Our defense played solid,” said La Salle coach Mike Fanger. “We shut down their running game and we did a pretty good job containing Tarance Glynn, their big Division-I looking athlete. He caught six or seven passes, but he only score one touchdown.”
Veteran quarterback Vince Hicks headed a balanced Falcon offensive attack. The 6-1, 190-pound senior rushed for 73 yards and two touchdowns and he completed 9-of-14 passes for 162 yards and a third touchdown.
La Salle star receiver Cam Keeney had a good night, hauling in four passes for 109 yards and a touchdown. Keeney’s 24-yard touchdown reception on the last play of the second quarter was pivotal, as it put the Falcons up 20-0.
La Salle senior running back Chris Nagel was a workhorse, rushing 23 times for 183 yards and a touchdown.
