Milwaukie High coed roundballers continued impressive in preseason play last week, pushing their season record to 4-1 with convincing wins at Madison (47-30) and at McMinnville (48-29).
Aggressive defensive play proved the difference in both games, as the Mustangs put their opponents away with full-court pressure in the second half.
Senior forward Lindsay Kanalz and sophomore forward Nichole Hannifan packed the one-two offensive punch in the game with Madison, scoring 14 and 12 points respectively.
Freshman guard Alexis Noreen and junior forward Kelly Walsh-Buntrock sparked the offense, each with three assists.
Senior Ashley Serdar and Noreen anchored the defense, with nine steals between them.
Nursing a 25-18 lead, the Mustangs broke the game open in the fourth period, when they out-scored their hosts 22-12. Five difference Mustangs put the ball in the bucket in the period.
