In conjunction with National Sportsmanship Day 2010, two teams from the Putnam Youth Basketball League were named recipients of the Positive Coaching Alliance “Positive Team Award.”
The presentations were made at the Rose Garden on center court at halftime of the Portland Trail Blazer game on March 19.
The “Positive Team Award” is given to coaches and teams who demonstrate an “honoring the game” culture by respecting the rules, officials, opponents, and their teammates throughout the season.
Honored from Putnam were coach Mindi Herbel and her fifth and sixth grade boys team and Coach Jeff Crowe and his sixth grade girls team.
Members of coach Herbel’s team included: Dakoda Amsden, Brendan Clouser, Trevor Hartnell, Christian Herbel, Arkady Khemchan, Jeremiah Mintun-Eby, Eli Perse, Jordan Proudfoot, Michael Read, Nathan Smart, and assistant coach Tim Platt.
Coach Crowe’s players were: Haley Brandel, Tatihana Campbell, Mackenzie Crowe, Natalie Disher, Eleanor Pitkin, Kyla Precourt, Brooke Snyder, and Zoe Stern. Scott Disher was the assistant coach.
“Honor the Game” is the motto of the Positive Coaching Alliance, an organization based at Stanford University which provides training for youth sports coaches, parents, players and leaders.
