Putnam finished with a net offense of 193 yards, and Kingsmen quarterbacks were sacked seven times.

Gates carried 13 times for 127 yards; Wagner rushed 13 times for 101 yards.

Senior running back Max Hoffman was a workhorse for Putnam, picking up 96 yards on 18 carries.

The Pioneers face a much stiffer test next Friday, when they take on top-ranked Lake Oswego on the road.

“We know it’s going to be tough,” said Gates. “But we’re going to go out and play our hardest, and try to put some points on the scoreboard.”
